The engagement ring is perfect, but it’s from Costco
Posted by clubwah on August 19, 2009
A question for the ladies based on a debate had at work today after someone read that Costco sold engagement rings.
If a guy proposed to you and gave you the engagement ring of your dreams, would it lose some sparkle if you found out he got it from Costco?
Discuss (guys, feel free to add you two cents).

They should sell the brides there too. Those Russian ones are just too damn expensive. Especially when you go through as many as I do.

If you’re going out with a guy who would even consider buying a Costco ring then you deserve every fucking McDonald’s date you get.

Bloody oath it would. And it wouldn’t be the ring of my dreams. If you can’t afford a real diamond, do for a Georg Jensen like we did, the first time I got married. Mind you, it only lasted 6 years – but I don’t blame the ring.

Hell yes. If he skimps on the engagement ring, what kind of cheap-arse condoms is he going to buy even though he knows I don’t want to get knocked up?

Isn’t the heading a contradiction in terms? If it’s “perfect”, what does it matter from where it came?
Mind you, I believe an engagement ring should be purchased AFTER the proposal and acceptance. Surely the wearer should have a say in it, if not the major say. That’s what I did – the first time – and it was part of the experience. Let “her” have a say.

If it was perfect, then as long as we could say it was from somewhere else it wouldn’t matter
Or maybe if he didn’t tell me, that would be fine.. Goddammit why is he so stingy?!

A ring is a ring is a ring. A diamond is a diamond is a diamond. And you would assume that considering Costco don’t have as big a markup as jewellers, he would be able to buy a bigger diamond for the same price.
I’d rather have the big rock than the name brand.

listen up DOUCHEBAGS! costco is a multi-billion dollar company. do you really think there going to sell junk? That company cares about there reputation and will sell real diamonds. Dont you guys remember when they sold that painting for 40,000 bucks. I think it was a michaelangelo. I remember seeing it on the news. Ill take a huge rock from costco anyday. After all they have a 40k plus ring in stock. Can any of you ever afford that?

there is a new report that costco rings are the same quality and cut as tiffany’s, except the cost.

Costco offers IGA certified rings. All their diamonds are also Kimberly Process certified(conflict free/not a blood diamond). Most of the inventory that mall jewelers (zales, helzberg) and other independent jewelers carry are not IGA certified. Most independent jewelers and mall jewelers can’t offer any real documentation(other than their word) that the diamond is what it is(no IGA certification) and don’t offer written proof the diamond is conflict free.
There is a huge markup by mall and independent jewelers. Just go to the costco website. Write down all the details of a particular ring and then go get it priced at a mall or independent jeweler. You’ll save 100’s if not 1000’s on the same ring by buying from Costco and it will be IGA certified. We had spent 5 months looking for rings in NY’s diamond district and then realized WHAT AN AMAZING DEAL Costco Had. You get MUCH more for your money at Costco and its IGA certified. 10 years from now a diamonds value no one will care what store you bought it from. All they will care about is the IGA certified. So spend wisely, dont be mis informed, by all the hype advertising by mall jewelers

actually Costco has some beautiful rings and they are not cheap, and their quality is amazing, I have gotten more comments on my ring and how beautiful it is, it does not mean my fiance is cheap for buying it there, it means he is smart and found a gorgeous ring that was reasonably priced without having to deal with annoying sales people who jack up the prices

My ring is from Costco and I am always getting comments on it. When I took it to get cleaned everyone was amazed at the quality and its beauty. I have the best diamond that is sold on my finger with no imperfections and very clear along with a great platinum band with diamonds along the band. I have not seen a ring that I like more than mine. My fiancé did a wonderful job, and he is not cheap at all. He is extremely generous and can afford whatever he wants, but I saw that ring one weekend at Costco and the following weekend it was on my finger. I had been looking for a least a year, but I fell in love with the one that I have. You get so much more for your money, trust me. If you are that materialistic and care about something like where your ring came from, well grow up and think about all of those who have nothing at all.
