What will Bolt do now the Greens oppose alcopop tax?

Posted by clubwah on May 16, 2008

Imagine of the Greens were the first to say they would oppose the alcopop tax in the Senate - they would be accused, by their haters like Andrew Bolt, of putting their self interest ahead of the health of our youth and jeopardising the economy.

Of course there was no such criticism when Dr Fuckinflipflop announced his Party would oppose the alcopop tax because he values all alcoholic beverages.

So now the Greens have joined the Liberals in saying they would oppose the girly-drink tax and blow a $3billion hole in the Rudd Government’s first Budget, where will the likes of Bolt lean?

Let’s hope his head explodes, all Scanners like.

    “All mudders luv their alcopops”

  2. Bron Says:

What are the Greens’ reasons for opposing the alcopop tax?

  3. Dave from Albury Says:

Bron, the Greens don’t need any reason to oppose anything. In their current incarnation they are nothing more than a protest party looking for attention.

Sorry Bron, I usually link to a story but didn’t in this case.
I am embarrassed to say I don’t know. Try The Australian.

I’ve just had a couple of pints with Ant, and I’ve read the story and can’t find anything about then fuckin Greens - maybe clearer heads would prevail.

Thanks, will have a read after I go down the street for a quick dip in the ocean. Cold water? Naaah.

  7. Bron Says:

OK, so the Greens aren’t opposed to the alcopop tax per se.

    Straight from the horses mouth:

“The Greens’ objection to this tax is a far cry from Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson’s. He doesn’t want the tax. We do, but only if it helps fund a concerted campaign to reduce the $10 billion per annum cost of alcohol abuse to Australian society,” Senator Brown said.

“The tax alone will not reduce binge drinking. The government should ban alcohol ads being pushed at young Australians, especially associated with sport. The idea that alcohol enhances sporting prowess or health is stupid, but millions of dollars are spent peddling that idea.”

“This is a good opportunity to tackle a drug problem which is worse than tobacco,” Senator Brown said.
