Sex scandals for the sake of sex scandals

 

I understand that sex sells newspapers, but surely the subject of the sex scandal has to have relevance to an Australian readership starting with we should at least know who the dirty fucker is.

Is it news that some politician was caught having kinky sex with high-priced hookers just because he’s a politician?

Not many Australians would have heard of former New York governor Eliot Spitzer, yet we were all too privy with his dealings with high-priced prostitutes and then one of the women involved was splashed all over Australian newspapers and news websites.

You’d think the governor of an American state, even New York, would push the limits of public interest in Australia. No so. The dealings of the Mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick , who has pleased not guilty to perjuring himself when denying he had an affair with his former chief of staff made it into The Age and Sydney Morning Herald and the Herald Sun. Even though Kilpatrick is a rising African American start in the Democratic ranks, you honestly have to ask: who here in Australia gives a flying fuck!
