I’m glad Cate Blanchett or any other Australian didn’t win a major Oscar.
Whenever one does it sends Australia back 30 years to the days of cultural cringe where the media wank on as though it’s the greatest thing to ever happen to this country and inindate us with embarrassing ”wow, the Americans know we exist” shit - even when the award is for Best Costume in a Foreign Film.
We’re better than that.

Agree. This year’s example seems to be Aussie Wins Best Doco.
I was disgusted this morning when Fran Kelly on Radio National actually said the words “Our Cate”.

Aussies can’t act anyway and they only get ’star treatment’ over there because they’re seen as a bit of a novelty. It’s like “Wow, you guys down under, well hell, you’re just like us”. And they are, the ones that sell out.
Yeah, and the media and the general public just lap it up. I’m only surprised that Kylie Minogue hasn’t gone into movies - she’d be certain to get an Oscar.
We should just stick to sports where we’re world class without all the hype.
